Early Redhaven Peach
Prunus persica 'Early Redhaven'
- Hardiness Zone & More
- » Early Redhaven was one of Grandpa's favorite early peaches!
Grandpa's Choice™ Early Redhaven is a mutation of Redhaven that ripens about two weeks earlier. This early, very attractive peach is cold hardy with billiant red, semiclingstone fruit that is firm and yellow fleshed. It is a good choice for an early peach for the backyard gardener. Not recommended for canning, but for fresh eating, pies, and similar uses.
Early Redhaven did not come from the MSU program like Redhaven, but was discovered in Washington as a "sport" of Redhaven. Grandpa's Washington nursery friends recognized its potential and introduced it, and Grandpa soon favored it over another Redhaven sport from Canada that he also grew. He always felt it set better crops, was prettier, and tasted better.
