Tart cherries are becoming more popular because of better varieties for fresh eating than the common tart, pie cherry.  Tart cherry tends to be more winter hardy than sweet, and are usually just as easy to grow.

Due to phytosanitary restrictions and concerns Grandpa will not accept orders or ship Tart Cherry or other stonefruits to CA or HI and the following counties in Colorado---Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Mesa, Rio Grande, Saguache Counties.  We may limit shipping of certain varieties to the following states---  ID, OR, WA--- depending on their source and virus-free certification status. We cannot ship any stock to CANADA or outside the USA.

Note:  Planting a variety outside of its normal Hardiness Zone will void our normal replacement policy.  Please be careful in your selections!

Balaton® Tart Cherry

Prunus cerasus 'Balaton®'

Balaton® Tart Cherry
»  Height: 18Feet  ·   Spread: 15 Feet  ·   Zone: 5-8

Balaton® Tart Cherry is an interesting tart cherry with more flavor and "body" than Montmorency. It is well flavored and is firmer and not as juicy as Montmorency. It makes a great dried tart cherry and is good for fresh eating and pies too. It ripens a week or more later than Montmorency.
