Black Amber Japanese Plum
Prunus salicina 'Black Amber'
- Summary
- Hardiness Zone & More
The Black Amber plum is a high quality fruit with a rapid growing, heavy bearing tree. It has round, firm dark purple fruit that closely resembles a Friar plum. It ripens with Santa Rosa and is a good companion for that variety.
Grandpa never grew many Black Ambers, but his Washington friends loved them and told him how well they did out there. It isn't an old variety, having been introduced from California around 1980.
Black Amber requires other Japanese plums for pollination, Friar or Santa Rosa are good choices.
