State Fair is a very high quality late summer apple ripening in mid-late August. The medium sized fruit is brilliantly striped orangish-red over a yellowish background color. It has a creamy flesh that is juicy, sweet, firm and aromatic with a moderately subacid flavor. It is predominatly used for fresh eating and will keep rather well for an earlier season apple. Very hardy.
State Fair is a complex cross of many varieties that was introduced by the University of Minnesota breeding program in 1978.
State Fair is somewhat susceptible to scab and mildew, and highly susceptible to fire blight.
