State Fair is a very high quality late summer apple ripening in mid-late August. The medium sized fruit is brilliantly striped orangish-red over a yellowish background color. It has a creamy flesh that is juicy, sweet, firm and aromatic with a moderately subacid flavor. It is predominatly used for fresh eating and will keep rather well for an earlier season apple. Very hardy.
State Fair is a complex cross of many varieties that was introduced by the University of Minnesota breeding program in 1978.
