Regent Apple
Malus domestica 'Regent'
- Summary
- Hardiness Zone & More
Regent is a hardy, all purpose apple that resembles Red Delicious somewhat in flavor and shape, but it stands by itself. The medium sized fruit is bright red over a yellow skin. It has a pleasing texture and flavor, and is superior to Harelson in appearance and storage qualities. The tree is vigorous and productive. Not quite as hardy as others from Minnesota. It ripens in mid-October.
Regent was bred and introduced from the University of Minnesota breeding program in 1963, however the original cross of Daniels Red Duchess X Delicious was made in 1924.
Regent is susceptible to fire blight and scab, but very resistant to cedar apple rust.
