Old Nonpariel Apple

Malus domestica 'Old Nonpariel'
  • Summary
  • Hardiness Zone & More

Old Nonpareil is a good cider apple with excellent flavor.  The apple is small and oblate, with greenish-yellow skin and an orangish blush.  Often it has some streaky russeting.  It ripens late in the season in October.

Alternate Names:  Old Non Pareil, Nonpareil

Old Nonpareil probably originated in England and is so ancient it may have been grown back in Queen Elizabeth's reign.

Many heirloom varieties have some natural resistance to apple scab and other diseases, since they were often discovered and grown well before fruit growers started to use chemicals for disease control.  However, you may still want to be vigilant about fire blight, apple scab, and other fungal diseases and spray when the need arises.  Protect from insect damage like normal.
