Patten Pear is one of the hardiest pears and is suitable for cold regions. The fruit resembles Bartlett and is medium large and good quality. Good for eating, but only fair for canning. It should be picked about a week before maturity and then allowed to ripen. It is a good pollinator for other pears. It is moderately resistant to fire blight. It ripens in late September.
Patten was selected by CG Patten in Charles City, Iowa and introduced in 1922 by the Iowa State College.
