- » Moonglow pear is a good pear for the backyard orchard because of its disease resistance.
Grandpa's Nature's Friendly™ Moonglow Pear is for home gardens. It is a medium-large, dull yellow fruit with a pink blush and it's white flesh is mildly juicy, soft and has a smooth texture. It's excellent, mild flavor with almost no grit cells makes it an excellent pair for fresh use and canning. Ripens from mid August to mid September, just before Bartlett.
Developed by the USDA in Beltsville, Maryland and introduced in 1960.
Moonglow is one of the most highly resistant varieties of pear. It is also a good pollinator for other varieties. The tree is very vigorous and upright, with a lot of fruiting spurs. It will fruit ealry and heavily.
