Magness is a medium size, short, oval, greenish-yellow pear with dark spots and light russeting. It has soft, juicy flest that is almost free of grit cells and it's tough skin red reduces insect damage and helps it store well. Trees are moderately vigorous, spreading, and very resistant to fireblight. It ripens about a week after Bartlett.
Developed by the USDA in Beltsville, Maryland and introduced in 1960.
Magness is a self-sterile variety, but seems to be pollinated by almost all other varieties. The tree is very vigorous and spreads very nicely. It is very resistant to fire blight.
