Luscious Pear

Pyrus communis 'Luscious'
  • Summary
  • Hardiness Zone & More

Luscious pear is very hardy and resistant to fire blight. It is an excellent dessert pear, but not well suited to canning. The fruit is medium size, bright yellow with a little red blush. Flavor is similar but more intense than Bartlett. It is a juicy, pleasant and sweet flavored pear that is good for northern, cold climes. It ripens in late September.

Luscious was developed by South Dakota State University especially for the cold Northern Great Plains, and was introduced in 1967.

Luscious requires a another pollinator pear, like similar hardy pears Patten or Parker, but other pears should be adequate too depending on how cold your climate is. The tree is vigorous and upright to spreading and similar to most pears in care and maintenance. It is not very susceptible to fire blight. It has glossy green foliage that turns red in the fall, thus making a beautiful and fruitful addition to the yard.
