Bosc Pear

Pyrus communis 'Bosc'
  • Summary
  • Hardiness Zone & More

The Bosc Pear is medium to large, dark yellow fruit with brownish russeted skin and a long, gourd-shaped neck. It is tender, aromatic, jiucy, smooth textured and white fleshed with a rich, slightly acid flavor that is great for eating, baking and drying. Trees are large, upright, slow growing and late blooming, but are also very productive and reliable. It harvests very late in September.

Introduced in Belgium in 1807. It is a very common pear in the United States and is often "paired" with Bartlett and other varieties for its good pollinating characteristics.

Bosc is another easy pear to grow, similar to Bartlett, which it is often planted with as a pollinator. It requires another variety for pollination and proper fruit set.
