Fortune is a relatively new dessert apple with a spicy and tart flavor. The fruit is red over a predominantly green background color. The flesh is white, juicy and firm. It is one of the more cedar apple resistant apples, but is susceptible to fire blight. The tree is very vigorous. It blooms in mid-season and ripens in mid-late season.
Fortune or New York 429 cv came from the New York Experiment Station of Cornell University. It was introduced in 1995. It was a cross of Spy and Empire.
