- Summary
- Hardiness Zone & More
Worcester Pearmain is a medium to large sized apple with dark red skin stippled with white dots over a yellow background color. The flesh is creamy white, subacid with good eating quality. It ripens unevenly in early September about 4 weeks before Red Delicious. The tree is productive.
The are many Pearmain named apples. Most came from England. Worcester Pearmain was introduced around 1874 in England and was a commercial variety there.
Many heirloom varieties have some natural resistance to apple scab and other diseases, since they were often discovered and grown well before fruit growers started to use chemicals for disease control. However, you may still want to be vigilant about fire blight, apple scab, and other fungal diseases and spray when the need arises. Protect from insect damage like normal.
