- Summary
- Hardiness Zone & More
Red Baron is a nice all purpose hardy apple for northern climes. The medium to large fruit is cherry red blushed on creamy yellow background color. It has a pleasant, acidic, tart flavor and is suitable for most uses. It ripens about September near Wealthy, and appears to keep fairly well into December. The tree is moderately vigorous.
Red Baron is another good apple bred by the University of Minnesota breeding program. It was released in 1969 and is a cross of Red Van Buren X Golden Delicious. It is recommended as a replacement for Wealthy.
Red Baron is tolerant to fire blight. The tree is open and of medium stature. Be sure to prune and fertilize to keep it growing well.
