It harvest in mid-season along with Empire, Idared, Delicious and Jonagold. It is excellent for fresh eating, sauce, cooking and juice. The fruit is large.
Freedom was introduced in 1983 from the Ag Experiment Station in Geneva, NY. Its family "tree" is well known and includes many well known, and not-so-well-known, parent and grandparent trees in its heritage.
Freedom is one of the most highly multi-disease resistant apples available, with excellent resistant to scab, mildew, fire blight, and cedar apple rust. It blooms early in the season. The tree is vigorous, spreading and productive. A good choice for the backyard orchard where you want to avoid spraying for disease.
