Shiro Japanese Plum
Prunus salicina 'Shiro'
- Summary
- Hardiness Zone & More
- » Shiro Plum is a great, early plum that bears consistently under adverse conditions.
Grandpa's Choice™ Shiro plum, known for its large, round bright yellow fruit has a mild sweet flavor. Excellent for fresh eating, cooking, canning, preserves and desserts, it is a consistant bearer of fruit. It is one of the earliest ripening plums.
Shiro has been around since 1899, so is much older than Grandpa, who used to raise a few because they were so tasty and easy to grow.
Shiro requires pollination from other Japanese plums and is a good pollinator for Santa Rosa, Methley and Satsuma. The tree is vigorous and very productive.
