Grandpa's Nature Friendly™ Redfree is an excellent tasting, summer apple with a lot of disease resistance. It is a good choice for the backyard orchard where you don't want to have to spray a lot. Redfree was introduced from Purdue University in Indiana in 1981. It came from the same program that has given us all the other good Co-op apples.

Redfree is immune to apple scab and cedar apple rust, and has good resistance to fire blight and mildew. It is one of the few apples that seems to have a natural resistance to European red mites. The tree is a little "rangy" and will have more "blind wood" that does'nt show fruiting spurs than other varieties, so don't over trim it--- let it fruit.
