Malus domestica 'Red Summer Rambo'
  • Summary
  • Hardiness Zone & More

Red Summer Rambo is a "double red" strain of regular Summer Rambo.  It has all the same qualities.  The large fruit is red striped.  The flesh is very crisp, juicy, yellowish green, with a fine, rich, tart, aromatic flavor.  Its great for eating and sauce.  The tree is very vigorous, hardy and productive.  It ripens earlier in the season in August to September.

Alternate Names:  Rambo, Summer Rambo, Imperial Rambo, Lorraine, Summer Rambour, Rambour France, Summer Rambo of Pennsylvania.

Summer Rambo was very popular in colonial times in America, but the variety originated near the village of Amiens in France in the 16th century.

Many heirloom varieties have some natural resistance to apple scab and other diseases, since they were often discovered and grown well before fruit growers started to use chemicals for disease control.  However, you may still want to be vigilant about fire blight, apple scab, and other fungal diseases and spray when the need arises.  Protect from insect damage like normal.
