Lady in Red is a highly colored red mutation of Cripps Pink (more commonly known as Pink Lady®). Its sweet-tart flavor, crisp texture and outstanding aroma have all the same attributes as Pink Lady®, but matures one week earlier and shows more intense coloring over more of the fruit's surface.
Lady in Red was discovered as a branch mutation on a Cripps Pink (more commonly known as Pink Lady®) tree by Basil Mawley in his orchard in the Hawkes Bay, New Zealand in 1996.
Upright to slipghtly spreading tree. Matures one week before Cripps Pink. As a sport of Cripp's Pink, it is likely just as susceptible to fire-blight as Cripp's Pink--- plan accordingly.
