Kogetsu is a Japanese selection that ripens with Gala in Mid-September.. The fruit is large, red and faintly striped. with a creamy white flesh with a nice sugar to acid balance. It is crisp and sweet with excellent flavor. It stores well, but shows some dropping tendencies as it ripens.
The Japanese typically prefer very sweet apples. Kogetsu was selected as a Golden Delicious X Jonathan cross and introduced in Japan in 1981.
We are not sure if there are any notable disease or insect resistances to this apple, so treat it as if it had none.
