Kandil Sinap Apple
Malus domestica 'Kandil Sinap'
- Summary
- Hardiness Zone & More
Kandil Sinap produces oblong, creamy yellow fruit with smooth, porcelin like skin with a washed red blush. The flesh is finely grained, crisp, juicy and has excellent flavor. The tree is productive and a regular bearer, but has a somewhat dwarfish aspect being tall and cylindical.
Kandil Sinap originated in the early 1800s in Turkey and is not well known in the US, but some consider it one of the best dessert apples.
Many heirloom varieties have some natural resistance to apple scab and other diseases, since they were often discovered and grown well before fruit growers started to use chemicals for disease control. However, you may still want to be vigilant about fire blight, apple scab, and other fungal diseases and spray when the need arises. Protect from insect damage like normal.
