Dolgo Edible-Ornamental Crab

Malus domestica 'Dolgo'
  • Summary
  • Hardiness Zone & More

Dolgo Crab apple is one of the earliest to bloom in the spring with its pink buds opening into large white flowers which are very fragrant. It sets an abundant crop of red, edible crabapples which are about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. It is also an excellent ornamental variety! It ripens in late August to early September.

Dolgo was introduced into the US from Russia in 1897. Its name means "long" in Russian. Because of its excellent hardiness, edible and ornamental qualities it makes a good tree for all localities. The fruit makes a ruby red jelly and the fruit can be canned or "pickled" whole.
