Anna Apple
Malus domestica 'Anna'
- Summary
- Hardiness Zone & More
Anna is considered to be the standard in low chill varieties with green fruit overlaid with a red blush. Its good flavor and crispness, along with early ripening, make it an excellent apple for warm winter climates and the hottest areas of the deep South. Ripens in mid-June or July depending on location. Can be used fresh or for cooking.
Developed in Isreal at Kibbutz Ein Shemer in Doar Na Shomron by Abba Stein, Anna is a cross between a Golden Delicious and a local cultivar called Red Hadassiya.
Large, strong tree bears when extremely young. Aggressive thinning results in very large fruit size. Requires pollination by Golden Dorestt, Ein Shemer or Shell of Alabama and a full spray program. 100-300 chill hours.
