Poached Pears in Mulled Spiced Wine

  • 6 pears, peeled, cored and cut in half
  • 1 bottle sweet red wine
  • 1 ¼ cup sugar
  • Mulled spices for cider or wine:
  • Cinnamon chips, cinnamon sticks cut into pieces
  • Orange rind
  • Whole cloves
  • Whole Allspice

In a large crock pot stir together sweet red wine and sugar; add pears and top with mulled spices.
Cover and cook on high until pears are "poke tender", about 2 to 3 hours.
Remove pears with slotted spoon to serving bowls over vanilla ice cream and coat with a little mulled spiced wine sauce.

Serve mulled pears over ice cream and wine sauce
