Cherry Chip Cupcakes

  • 1 1/2 cups flour, all purpose
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsps baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tsps cherry extract
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup cherry flavored sweet cherry chips
  • Sweet Cherry Buttercream frosting, see below
  • Sprinkles for garnish, optional


  • 1/2 cup butter, room temperature
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsps cherry extract, or less if desired
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsps heavy cream

Place cupcake liners in a muffin pan.
Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cream in butter, sour cream, eggs, cherry extract and lemon juice until smooth. Stir in cherry chips.
Fill muffin liners up to about 2/3 of the way full, about 3 Tbsp in each.
Bake 20 minutes or so, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Beat butter until light and fluffy. Beat in sugar well. Mix in extracts, lemon juice, and salt. Beat in heavy cream. Frost cooled cupcakes, garnish with sprinkles and enjoy!

Serving Information:
Remove from oven, let cool completely then frost.
