Stanley Prune

Prunus domestica 'Stanley'
  • Summary
  • Hardiness Zone & More

  • »  Stanley Prune was Grandma's favorite for canning.

Grandpa's Choice ™ Stanley prune is a fine prune-type plum with excellent quality suited for fresh eating, canning, preserves and drying. Fruit is large in size, with dark blue skin and a greenish-yellow, fine grained flesh. The tree is early bearing and a heavy, annual bearer of fruit. It is quite hardy and ripens around Labor Day.

Stanley was bred in Geneva, New York at the New York State Experiment Station. Grandpa grew mostly Stanley prunes on his farm for the market because it was so outstanding.

Stanley, like most European type plums, is mostly self-fertile and will set nice crops without other pollinators, but extra ppollination always helps. Stanley is suceptible to black knot, which should be cut out and off the tree as soon as possible to control.
