Flavor Delight Aprium(R)
Prunus hybrid-Aprium(R) 'Flavor Delight'
- Hardiness Zone & More
Flavor Delight Aprium(R) is an apricot-plum cross that has a distinct flavor with a lingering aftertaste all its own. The fruit is bright yellow and about 2 inches in diameter. It ripens in late June to early July along with apricots. It requires about 200-600 chilling hours. It should be pollinated by another apricot.
Apriums(R) and Pluots(R) are trademarks of Floyd Zaiger of California, who is one of the pioneers in making what are called inter-specific crosses in the Prunus genus. While some of these crosses happen naturally, almost all of the important ones have to be specifically bred by crossing, re-crossing, and back-crossing plums, peaches, apricots, nectarines and other species in the Prunus genus. It is a time consuming project, but many interesting cultivars have resulted from his and his family's hard work. The resulting varieties often have very interesting and distinct flavors combining the flavors and qualities of these different stone fruits.
