Early Robin® Blush Sweet Cherry
Prunus avium 'Early Robin®'
- Summary
- Hardiness Zone & More
Early Robin® is a heart-shaped, semi-freestone Rainier type fruit with mild flavor. It ripens 7-10 days before Rainier, so Early Robin® is a good option to extend your blushed cherry season. It does require a pollinator, possibly Chelan and Bing, but do not use Van.
Discovered around 1990 by Robin Doty in one of his Mattawa, Washington orchards and patented as a variety in 2003. Early Robin® earned its name not just because of Doty's first name, but also because the robins in the orchard were always attracted to the tree because it fruited earlier than the other Rainier trees.
