Ellis Bitter is an excellent hard cidre variety with a bittersweet character. The medium sized yellow fruit ripen in September. The tree is fairly vigous, precocious and productive. It is a later bloomer. It does not store for long so should be pressed shortly after harvest. The tree is susceptible to both fire blight and scab.
Ellis Bitter is a widely planted variety in the west country of England.
