Cortland-Red Cortland Apple
Malus domestica 'Cortland'
- Summary
- Hardiness Zone & More
Cortland is an old-time heritage apple that Grandpa grew up with. Cortland is large, and round and similar in looks to McIntosh, but its flavor is very distinct. It is fairly crisp and juicy, but is excellent for eating, cooking and cider.
Cortland is a cross of Ben Davis and McIntosh, made in 1898, at the famous horticultural experiment station at Geneva, NY. It was introduced in 1915-- the same year Grandpa was born!
