Apple Dumplings

Where To Cook: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F

Ingredients: 

  • 4-5 Apples
  • 1 1/4 cup shortening
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 3 cup flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 5 TB water
  • 1 TB of apple cider vinegar

DUMPLING SAUCE:

  • 2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Directions:

Blend together shortening, salt and flour.
Add egg, water and vinegar & mix well.
Form into a ball, divide it into quarters and roll out each quarter. Then cut those into 4 squares. Repeat until you end up with 16 squares.

DUMPLING SAUCE:
In a saucepan combine butter, brown sugar, water and cinnamon over a medium heat until melted and well blended. Remove from heat and set aside.
Peel and quarter 16 small apples & roll the apples in the sugar and cinnamon mixture.
Place 4 apple quarters on each square and pull the sides up, wet the edges.
Place the wrapped apples into the baking dish, placing the open edges down. Pour the sauce over all the dumplings and bake.
