Grandpa's Choice(TM) Flemish Beauty Pear is an excellent hardy pear for cold locations. Large, roundish and uniform in size and shape. Reddish blushed color on a clear yellow skin. The yellowish-white flesh is firm, but tender--- becoming melting when riper. Sweet and aromatic with a musky flavor. Good for eating out of hand and drying. Strong growing, productive, very hardy, and an early and heavy producer. Ripens in early fall from mid-September through early October.
Flemish Beauty was originally known as "Fondante de Boise" where it originated in Belgium around 1830. In Flemish it means "sweetmeat of the woods".
A strong growing, vigorous tree. Easy to grow. Requires cross-pollination and is an excellent pollinizer for other pears. Susceptible to fire blight like most pears.
