Cortland Apple

Malus domestica 'Red Cortland'

Cortland is an old-time heritage apple that Grandpa grew up with. Cortland is large, and round and similar in looks to McIntosh, but its flavor is very distinct. It is fairly crisp and juicy, but is excellent for eating, cooking and cider.

Homeowner Growing and Maintenance Tips

Cortland is a very vigorous grow that bears heavy annual crops. It ripens just after McIntosh, and blooms early in the season. It is susceptible to scab, mildew and fire blight so regular sprays and proper care is necessary.

A Little History about Cortland Apple

Cortland is a cross of Ben Davis and McIntosh, made in 1898, at the famous horticultural experiment station at Geneva, NY. It was introduced in 1915-- the same year Grandpa was born!
