Pyrus pyrifolia Hosui - Hosui Asian Pear

Hosui Asian Pear

Pyrus pyrifolia 'Hosui'

Hosui Asian Pear is an attractive fruit with golden russeted skin. It's flesh is firm, juicy, sweet, and mildly flavored with good quality. Trees are vigorous and spreading. Ripens from mid-August to late September depending on location.

"Much Water" is the English translation of Hosui. Hosui was introduced in Japan in 1972 and is popular in the US.

Hosui can grow quite large fruit if thinned properly. Because it is an attractive russet, bronze color, be careful not to harvest it before it is truly mature, late in the summer about the same time as Twentieth Century.
