York Apple
Malus domestica 'York'
York is a popular eating, cooking and processing apple in the Northeast. Grandpa's strain is highly colored and quite spurry and more compact than ordinary York.
York is a heritage variety, found about 1830 in York, Pennsylvania.
York is a very late blooming apple, so it should be a good choice for locations where late spring frosts are a concern. The tree is hardy and easy to maintain. Pollinate with other late blooming varieties like Spy, Rome and Melrose.
