Hawaii Apple
Malus domestica 'Hawaii'
Hawaii is a gourmet dessert apple with a flavor and aroma just like a pineapple, with large yellow fruit with a light pinkish orange striping. It has an exceptionally sweet flavor, largely influenced by its Gravenstein parentage.
Originated in California in 1945 and is a Golden Delicious x Gravenstein cross.
Moderate, spreading and easily trained. Tends to bear heavily one year and lightly the next, so proper pruning is necessary to discourange this. Resists cedar apple rust, but is susceptible to scab and some bitter pit. Good keeper. Ripens n September.
