Arkansas Black Apple

Malus domestica 'Arkansas Black'

Arkansas Black is a old-time heritage variety that has been a favorite in the south for years. It is very late maturing, along with Granny Smith and Braeburn. When mature it has very dark, almost black skin. The fruit has a distinctive tart flavor and can be used for many purposes.

Arkansas Black was probably a seedling of Winesap discovered in Benton County, Arkansas around 1870. It is also know as Arkansas Black Twig.

Arkansas Black is a later blloming variety, so should be polinated by other mid- to late blooming varieties, like Golden Delicious or Fuji.
