Prunus persica Summer Beaut - Summer Beaut Nectarine

Summer Beaut Nectarine

Prunus persica 'Summer Beaut'

Summer Beaut Nectarine is an excellent early ripening nectarine, coming on just a few days after Redhaven peach starts.  The fruit is large, freestone and firm.  It has good eating quality.  The tree is vigorous and productive.  The tree is reported to be hardy, between Loring and Redhaven.  Not recommended for northern, colder climates though.

Summer Beaut originated in California, being bred by Fred Anderson, who bred many stone fruits.  It was introduced about 1979.

Nectarines are self-fertile and can be planted by themselves. Treat a nectarine just like peaches when growing. Thin early and agressively for good size. Prune every year to maintain vigor. You should seek to get between 1-3 feet of new growth a year. Over, 3 feet and you are probably fertilizing too much.
