Mesabi Tart Cherry
Prunus cerasus 'Mesabi'
Mesabi is a nice hardy tart cherry that resembles Meteor somewhat. The tree is dwarfish, very hardy and a heavy producer. The fruit is bright red, with pinkish-red flesh that has a sugar content between normal sweet and sour cherries. It has a small pit, ripens in mid-July and is good for sauce and pies.
Mesabi is believed to be a possible cross between Bing and another chance seedling. It was introduced in 1964.
