Malus domestica Criterion - Criterion Apple

Criterion Apple

Malus domestica 'Criterion'

Criterion is a very attractive golden delicious type apple with a reddish pink bluish.  Good for all uses.  The flesh is creamy, with a mildly sweet aromatic flavor.  The tree is large, spreading and productive.    The fruit is conical like a red delicious.  Ripens in late mid-season in mid-October in MIchigan.

Criterion is believed to have Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, and Winter Banana blood in it, but it was discovered as a chance seedling by Francis Crites in Wapato, WA, and introduced to commercial orchardists in 1972.  Not widely grown anymore, but some commercial growers still like it.
