Malus domestica Spijon - Spijon Apple

Spijon Apple

Malus domestica 'Spijon'

Spijon resembles Jonathan in flavor and quality, but ripens later in the season with Northern Spy.  It is a large, dark red, blushed apple with firm, light yellow flesh.  The fruit is subacid, slightly tart, but with very good eating and processing qualities.  It will store for several months.  The tree is productive.

Spijon is a cross of Red Northern Spy X Monroe.  It was released from the New York State Experiment Station in 1968.
