Shinsui Asian Pear
Pyrus pyrifolia 'Shinsui'
Shinsui is one of the earliest ripening Asian pears, ripening before Shinseiki in mid-August. The fruit is medium sized, globular to oblate, with smooth yellow skin covered in an orange-brown russet. The fruit is crisp and juicy and has good flavor for an early pear. The fruit will keep for up to six weeks.
Shinsui means "New Century" in Japan where it originated.
Asian pears are best pollinated with other asian pears. It is best to plant two different varieties. Sometimes European pears will also pollinate them.
