Fuji-Auvil Early Fuji® Apple
Malus domestica 'Auvil Early Fuji®'
- » Auvil Early Fuji™ Apple is a "must have" Fuji for the northern areas where it will ripen earlier and completely.
If you are a lover of the sweet Fuji apple, but live in the more northern, shorter season areas, Grandpa's Choice™ Auvil Early Fuji® is the best fuji variety for your backyard orchard. It has all the attributes of regular fuji, but harvests 5-6 WEEKS earlier, so by mid-September in most areas you can abe picking fully mature, beautiful red fuji.
Auvil Early Fuji™ was discovered by the late world famous, Washington state apple grower, Grady Auvil, who was a real pioneer in the fruit industry. Grandpa and Grady were of the same generation and had met over the years, and Grandpa always took wisdom from Grady's words and experience. Also known as Fuji 216 cultivar, it has only been available for about ten years.
Fuji apples bloom mid- to late season and can be pollinated by most other apple varieties. Fuji is tends to be a rather weeping, spreading tree with strong limbs. It has a biennial bearing habit, so on the "on" years where a large crop sets, you need to thin early and hard to reduce the crop load to a reasonable level, so that it will set enough fruit buds for a nice crop the next year.
