Malus domestica 'Honeygold'
Honeygold is a great substitute for Golden Delicious in colder, northern areas where it is much more hardy. It is reported to be able to withstand -50 degreesF with little winter damage. It is medium to large size, with a golden to yellowish green color and a reddish bronze blush. It has a Golden Delicious flavor, but is a little sweeter and blander. It is high quality and stores well. Ripens in October, similar to Golden Delicious.
Honeygold was developed in Minnesota by a cross of Harelson and Golden Delicious. It was introduced in 1935.
