Prunus domestica Damson - Damson Plum

Damson Plum

Prunus domestica 'Damson'

The Damson plum has a tart, juicy golden yellow flesh with bluish-purple skin. The self-fertile, vigorous tree crops heavy and ripens from August to early September. Damson is a great little plum for jelly, but if you like plums with "pucker factor", you can eat them fresh too.

Grandpa always planted some Damson plums in with his Stanley prunes, mostly to help pollinate, we think, but he always made money on them when he took them to market. He didn't like picking them, though, because they are small and it takes a while to pick a bushel, which probably weighs about 60 pounds! We don't think he liked picking them up, either!
