Grandpa's Substitution Policy

Grandpa's Orchard™ strives to fill your order exactly as you ordered, but sometimes substitutions may become necessary.

Grade or Size Substitution Policy: We strive to always fulfill your order with the size that we have listed online and that you may have ordered. However, in some cases sizes may change and we may be forced to substitute a different size and charge accordingly. In most cases, the difference in price between grades is $1.00 up or down per caliper grade. If we feel that there is too great a difference between the size ordered and the size actually available in these cases, we will attempt to contact you regarding the size change. In general, we do not consider one grade up or down a significant grade change, and thus, we will not likely contact you in these cases, but be assured that we will substitute grades only if we have no choice. We never charge extra for having to upgrade from a smaller caliper grade ordered to a larger one that we may have to ship. You get a bonus as appreciation for your order! Rootstock Substitution Policy: We strive to always fulfill your order with the rootstock that we have listed online and that you may have ordered. However, in some cases, due to supply problems, we may not be able to supply the exact same rootstock your ordered. In these cases, we may substitute a similar rootstock that should perform similarly to the ordered one. Knowing that you may have limited space available for your backyard orchard, we will try to contact you if we need to substitute a rootstock that may have a different growth characteristic than the one you have ordered. If the substitute rootstock performs very similar to the ordered one, then we may not always contact you, as we feel there should be no significant difference. Variety Substitution Policy: We strive to always fulfill your order with the exact same variety that you want. However, certain varieties of fruit tree may come in several different "cultivars" which may vary somewhat in color, growth habits, season of ripening, etc. In most cases, we describe our varieties in terms which will include most of these different "cultivars" in case we need to use one of them over another. However, sometimes cultivars are so different as to make it difficult to substitute one for another. If there is little difference between one cultivar and another in a variety class, we will fill your order with a cultivar that we know Grandpa would approve of. However, we will always try to contact you if it appears necessary to substitute another different variety, which we feel is not similar enough to the one ordered. We hope to be able to give you several choices of substitutes to chose from, or the option of canceling that part of your order, or possibly delaying shipment until the variety once again becomes available. All fruit trees are warranted the same, regardless of variety, size, grade, or rootstock.
